Voyager 1 Saturn Images – Southern spot
Southern spot
An orange-blue-violet color composite showing the southern hemisphere in approximately true color/contrast and a greatly enhanced version. The processing is comparable to the preceding image except that the enhanced version isn't quite as heavily processed. A small spot at planetographic latitude ~54 degrees south is visible near the limb. Interestingly the spot is obvious in the orange and violet images but it is almost completely invisible in the blue image. In the orange image it appears brighter than the surrounding areas whereas in the violet image it appears darker. Enceladus is visible at upper right. The images used in this color composite were obtained by Voyager 1 on November 6, 1980 at a range of 8.6 million km.
