Astronomy - Solar System Images
![]() Equipment |
This section contains images and observations I
have made of solar system objects. Most of this (in fact all of it at the time of this
writing) was obtained with a Philips ToUcam Pro 840K webcamera attached to an Intes MN61
telescope which is a 15 cm (6") Maksutov-Newtonian. Maksutov-Newtonians are
particularly well suited for planetary observing, my main interest in astronomy (in fact I
have yet to capture a single image of a deep sky object). I have had the telescope since back in 1999 but I bought the camera in November 2003. The initial test images of my neighbor's trees were rather promising and several weeks later I was obtaining reasonably good images of solar system targets, especially when taking into account that I live in an extremely windy and cloudy place. This set off a chain reaction: First I had to get myself a laptop for imaging. Several weeks later I was forced to replace my desktop computer. I needed a computer with a DVD burner, I needed 5-10 times more diskspace than my old computer had and I needed a much faster computer for processing the images. This chain reaction wasn't finished until March 2004 so the winter of 2004-2005 will be my first real observing season with the camera. I expect to obtain several times more images then than in 2003-2004. What's new
